Key Responsibilities Includes:
  • Through sponsorship & partnership with other AbbVie IT groups, the IM&T Portfolio Manager will provide consultative and contracted services to provide assistance with process improvement efforts, planning, and project management curriculum development and training courses.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system by the IM&T Portfolio Manager accomplishes the objectives and the function by working with executives, project and program managers, and project teams across IM&T. This requires an ability to exert a strong positive influence on people management, objectives and performance management at all levels of management and staff.
  • An advanced proficiency in project and strategic change methodology with knowledge of the IT environment, the business landscape and existing and pending regulations is critical to the success of the role. The job requires professional expertise with extensive knowledge and understanding of the division's business strategy and IT needs as well as delivery capability.
  • Assess the multiple projects within and outside of IM&T. Portfolio of projects and activities covering from $15M-$25M of project level activity in capital and expense combined (approximately 25%of IM&T budget).
  • Lead and consult with teams and other customers on critical business problems, defining business processes and research/identify enabling technologies based on customer requirements. Formulate approaches that achieve desired business objectives, including defining project/system scope and objective and assisting with business case justification.
  • Partner with business leaders, IT senior management, and peer-level managers to assess the technological cost and impact of recommended changes, help clarify project priorities, and coordinate cross-functional consortia where common needs have been identified.
  • Develop, implement and maintain proper project management and project lifecycle practices and methodologies. Improve practices and methods over time within the office and within the organization at large. Direct complex projects and be responsible for the overall implementation and execution of program and performance measurement; maintain full knowledge of all phases of business-specific technology implementations.
  • Provide senior management and IT management with an integrated individual business and company wide perspective, assessing and consulting on project progress, risks and the effects of specific project requirements on other business processes and system priorities; ensure technologies are aligned with business strategies.
  • Create and sustain business literacy in the IT organization; maintain clarity about values, visions, meaning, and purpose in IT/business integration.
  • Responsible for enhancing the division's ability to implement organizational strategy through the successful, consistent, and predictable delivery of business-related processes to dramatically improve value creation across PPD and AbbVie. Leads teams for PPD new product launches across IM&T and PPD Commercial. Consults with colleagues within IM&T and sister divisions to identify IT needs and to direct appropriate strategies to respond to respond to those needs.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related degree. Master's Degree/MBA preferred. PMP certification preferred. College and post-graduate education (or equivalent experience) provides the general, business foundation to effectively perform the responsibilities of this position. The position interacts with positions who incumbents have similar or higher level of education, depending on the functional area. PMP Certification is a plus in regards to industry peers and domain competency.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affective Pharmaceutical Products (e.g. CFR 210/211, cGMP) specifically.
  • Problem solving abilities will be key to assessment of project health and problem resolution in an effort to assist programs and contribute to overall goal of providing value to PPD and AbbVie. Problem solving must be applied both tactically and strategically - systematically reviewing both successes and failures to identify lessons learned and opportunities to improve the performance of future project efforts.
  • In alignment with the major duties and responsibilities of the position and office, a repeatable and effective problem solving/decision process should be applied and modeled - making it available for replication across the multiple project teams and systems support groups, building competency around project management.
  • A high-level of oral and written communication skills is required.
  • Project management experience with demonstrated decision-making is required. Person must have demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to think globally in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Must have excellent communication, project management and organizational skill.s Effectively manages activities and coordinates with personnel in other IT units, the business, and external vendors in order to deliver services and information. Must have excellent persuasion and interpersonal skills in dealing with staff, other AbbVie IT PMOs, outside vendors and consultants, particularly in relationship to the implementation of new processes and business practices.
  • Must have a current skill set in project/portfolio management as well as understanding emerging and changing practices in IT management and IT finances.
