POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the management and overall stewardship of the Global Quality Analytical Science & Technology (GQAST) project portfolio management process within the Analytical Operations organization, including ownership and facilitation of the monthly Project / Portfolio Management Committee (PPMC). Additional responsibilities include the project management of three to five critical projects for GQAST throughout the year.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The GQAST Portfolio Manager role is the bridge between the business strategy of the organization and the execution / status of the project teams. The Portfolio Manager is responsible for portfolio process leadership, meeting facilitation, data analysis, maintenance, and communication of the portfolio health.

The Portfolio Manager is empowered by the GQAST leadership team to confirm strategic alignment, evaluate project portfolio using prioritization criteria such as risk, resources, budget, and financial impact to compare and propose projects to be included in the portfolio. The Portfolio Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining the GQAST Project Portfolio process and tools, as well as providing the PPMC and project teams with data analysis and decision-making tools. The Portfolio Manager collects detailed project status, applies the portfolio analysis tools, and facilitates regular PPMC meetings to discuss progress to goals, key decisions, and areas of impact, as well as interactions with the GPS PMO Office and enterprise tool.

The Portfolio Manager uses project management disciplines with business and general management practices at the portfolio level in order to give an organization the ability to:
  • Ensure projects and programs are aligned with the organization's strategies and objectives.
  • Make the best use of available resources by applying to the highest priority projects.
  • Regularly assess how projects and programs are contributing to portfolio health.
  • Take management action to keep the portfolio in compliance with business objectives.


This role will also be tasked with the project management and strategic ownership of three to five critical projects throughout the year and expected to execute using project management discipline and professionalism.

QUALIFICATIONS

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, etc:

  • Must have industry experience with project management or portfolio management in a highly energized and matrix work environment.
  • Must have prior experience leading a matrix team within a technical field, preferably within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Must demonstrate teamwork, project planning, strong organizational skills, computer competency, and effective written and verbal communications within both structural and matrix organizations.
  • To be successful in this role, the candidate must embrace collaboration with partners, customers, and team members, while operating with integrity, as well as seeking and participating in the continuous improvement of systems and culture.
  • Prior experience or fluency with project management IT solutions (MS Project, SharePoint, Excel Services, etc.) is desired.


Education/Experience/ Licenses/Certifications:

A PhD in biological sciences, chemistry, engineering or related scientific disciplines with at least 2 years of matrix / project management experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry or a MS in biological sciences, chemistry, or related scientific disciplines with at least 5 years of matrix or project management experiences in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. Preferably, the ideal candidate will also have business management, project management and/or OpEx training or certification.
