Position Brand Description:
Product delivery (PD) is investing in internal manufacturing capacity for parenteral formulation and vial filling to support early phase clinical trials. This automation engineer position resides in the Product delivery (PD) organization and supports the B358 clinical trial parenteral manufacturing plant.

The Automation Engineer identifies, recommends, implements, and supports automation-based solutions that address B358 CT manufacturing business needs. Initial responsibilities will focus on capital project support of new automated processes supporting utilities, equipment prep., an isolator vial filling line and a freeze dryer.

Ultimately, the position will include working on day-to-day support for ongoing process operations, optimization of current processes, and various automation projects in any of the following focus areas: automation control logic, batch control, human interface design, automation data collection and visualization.

Position will also have opportunities to learn instrumentation as well as process control and optimization. There will be opportunities to cross train in other disciplines (e.g. Process Engineering).

Key Objectives/Deliverables:
Automation/Control Engineering:
Investigate GMP non-conformances and provide solutions to correct system issues.
Troubleshooting and repair problems with automated control systems associated with process equipment or facility utilities.
Implement technology-based solutions to support site objectives and to ensure compliance with regulations.
Continuously improve the manufacturing processes through automation to enhance robustness and reliability.
Ensure systems maintain compliance with relevant local and corporate quality, engineering, and computer systems policies and procedures.

Computer Systems Validation:
Serve as a system custodian for multiple systems
Assist with researching, creating, reviewing, and approving validation deliverables and documentation as necessary.

Reach across boundaries to collaborate with colleagues to deliver on key projects and programs
Coach and mentor others, especially instrumentation technicians, and craftspeople
Strong customer focus
Continuously develop technical skills, communications, project management, and leadership.

Basic Qualifications
  • BS in engineering with minimum of 5 year post degree professional post degree experience
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Previous manufacturing experience with industrial control systems including workstation and server platforms. Experience within a regulated industry preferred.
  • Exceptional learning agility and desire to immerse in a highly technical job
  • Strong problem solving skills and interest in programming.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Freeze Drying, Parenteral Manufacturing experience.
  • PE and/or CAP desired, but not required.
  • Experience with equipment C&Q and validation activities preferred
  • Experience with Rockwell automation

Additional Information
  • Monday through Friday Day Shift
  • There will be some off-hour support.
  • Location: LTC-North, B358
  • Travel: Project related - 10%, then Domestic travel required as needed (5%)
