AbbVie Immunology is expanding its early discovery at Cambridge, Massachusetts. This new immunology research group at AbbVie Cambridge Research Center (ACRC) will focus on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammation diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and validating targets using in vitro and in vivo experimental approaches. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to partner with Functional Genomics and bioinformatics expertise and in vivo pharmacologists to develop novel platforms for target selection and validation. This position requires passion, attention to details, hands-on experience and teamwork spirits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and validate potential novel targets for the treatment of inflammatory conditions.
  • Conceptualize and execute novel approaches for target discovery and contribute to the optimization of new technology development and platform building.
  • Develop strategic plans to guide the selection and prioritization of identified targets.
  • Develop and execute a strategic data driven plan for individual target validation for drug development.
  • Plan and coordinate experiments with team members and facility operations.
  • Analyze and present study data, provide scientific interpretations and recommendations in lab meetings and project team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and well-organized records and laboratory notebook.
  • Support developments of protocols, study reports and data presentations.


Position will be hired based on level of experience.
  • BS, MS or PhD in Immunology or Biological Sciences with typically 10-12+ (BS), 8-10+ (MS) or 0-3+ (PhD) years of academic or industry experience. Hands-on experience of working in a laboratory preferred.
  • Expertise in transcriptomic techniques for target identification (ie. Single cell, RNA Sequencing, CITESeq, SPLiTSeq, RNASeq). Experience with epigenomics techniques is a plus (ie. Hi C).
  • Expertise in the study of inflammatory diseases such IBD and experience in human tissue processing is desirable.
  • Proficient in laboratory skills including but not limited to: animal models, tissue handling for molecular and cellular phenotyping, multicolor flow cytometry and cell sorting, knowledge in gene and protein cellular and tissue expression validation.
  • Independently design, develop and evaluate well-controlled in- vitro assays to address target biology and drug biology.
  • Experience in generating knockout, knockdown or enzymatically inactive target protein cell systems using approaches such as siRNA, shRNA and CRISPR for testing target validation hypotheses is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be a quick-learner and be a team-player.
