The Basic Science Program (BSP) pursues independent, multidisciplinary research in basic and applied molecular biology, immunology, retrovirology, cancer biology, and human genetics. Research efforts and support are an integral part of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). The BSP-Basic Research Laboratory, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Section (NMR), under the scientific direction of Dr. Hiroshi Matsuo's research focuses on determining structures of biomolecular complexes containing protein, DNA and RNA by using NMR and X-ray crystallography.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Postdoctoral Fellow will:
  • Perform laboratory research on human APOBEC3 proteins and HIV Vif E3 ligase complex, with hands-on benchwork on a full range of experiments from molecular biology to structural biology
  • Publish first author papers in peer reviewed journals
  • Work on projects aimed at obtaining at6omic-level understanding of the APOBEC3-Vlf interaction using cyroEM and/or cryo/ET
  • Collaborate with other members of the lab who study similar biological systems using NMR and X-ray crystallography

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a doctoral degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • No experience required beyond the Doctorate degree
  • Ability to perform a wide range of molecular and structural biology assays
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of and experience using x-ray crystallography
  • Knowledge of and experience using NMR technology
