Provide strategic and operational support and guidance to assigned PPS (Pharmacovigilance & Patient Safety) Leader (VP), in developing, aligning, resourcing and executing functional, operational and financial priorities ensuring alignment with overarching PPS and sphere strategies.

Key Responsibilities Includes:
  • Works directly with and frequently as delegate for department Vice President
  • Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and driving exceptional departmental performance across multiple business areas
  • Design, oversight, and execution of business management routines, including strategic planning, financial, internal and external engagement, talent management, and management review
  • Identifies, plans, leads, and tracks priority activities and projects of strategic importance
  • Ensures global and cross-functional linkage and influence between department and internal and external partners.
  • Communicate and champion the leadership vision, mission and achievements including culture and communications strategy and ensure implementation. Serve as a positive and visible role model for change.
  • Develops communications, talking points and presentations to support VP messages. Develops agendas and facilitates team and all-staff meetings. Key member of department LT including responsibility for coordination of strategic and operational aspects of the LT and extended LT, ensuring alignment and execution of functional strategies.
  • Leads cross departmental and cross-functional efforts to achieve multi-functional strategies and objectives. Responsible for overseeing operations activities/ projects managed by others within department.
  • Represent leadership and partner with Strategy Management Office departments (Business Process Office, Project Management, Office of the PST, etc.) to successfully implement key initiatives. Independently leads activities and multiple self-initiated major projects. Assists management in the selection of action plans that best meets business objectives. Anticipates and leads issue resolution. Assures departmental project portfolio remains in alignment with strategic initiatives.
  • Liaison with other departments and functions within AbbVie to foster strategic partnerships, opportunity identification and realization, and issue resolution
  • Designs, oversees, executes, and contributes to long-term strategic planning and for department, using insight, research, and strong business acumen. Makes strategic decisions that affect the department and the division. Provides leadership to the department on strategic business issues. Sponsors and/or manages strategic projects as needed.
  • Coordinate annual strategic planning, ensuring that objectives are aligned between the therapeutic areas, with the PPS vision and other AbbVie functions.
  • Provides leadership and strategically manages with departments to ensure all Functional areas operate within the current Plan/Update budget. Partner with VP and department managers to financially plan upcoming initiatives and projects.

  • Bachelor/Master of Science (BSc/MSc), or PhD in Science or Business-related Field; BSc with 7+ years experience
  • 5-7 years management experience or position requiring ability to influence cross-functionally. 5+ years of significant leadership experience to manage multifunctional responsibilities preferred.
  • Expert operations management experience of 5+ years in the pharmaceutical or health care industry preferred. Proven track record for successful projects.
  • Requires multi-faceted, broad-based experience in several functions and. Is considered to have in depth knowledge of operational business needs, issues, mitigation plans, etc.
  • Recognized leader in standard business activities including project management practices, portfolio review
  • Recognized as an expert with knowledge of AbbVie and global pharma drug development processes.
