We are seeking a molecular biologist to join the Discovery Protein Science group in the Molecular Discovery Technologies (MDT) department at our new state-of-the-art facility in Cambridge, MA. The qualified candidate will be responsible for performing high-throughput molecular biology including PCR and plasmid preparation from E.coli to generate DNA for high-throughput protein expression and purification playing a major role in support of the Antibody Discovery efforts at BMS.

The Discovery Protein Science group supports programs across all BMS therapeutic areas including Immuno-oncology (I/O), Immunoscience, Cardiovascular, and Fibrosis. Group activities comprise of protein expression, purification and characterization making use of high throughput methods and automation to enhance productivity where possible.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Effectively utilize liquid handlers to perform plate based PCR
  • Carry out DNA transformations, E. coli cell culture, and glycerol stock preparations
  • Assist in executing automation method development experiments for PCR on an integrated robotic system.
  • Perform simple error recovery and maintenance of liquid handlers.
  • Ensure accurate registration of DNA lots and associated data into LIMS.
  • Maintain a complete and current Electronic Laboratory Notebook.
  • Collaborate in multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams, communicate results both written and verbally with matrixed working group.


Qualifications:
  • Candidates should have a B.S. or M.S in Molecular Biology or a related field with at least 2 year experience in an industry setting.
  • Experience working with DNA and E.coli is required (PCR, cloning, DNA amplification, E.coli cell culture, DNA sequence analysis, gel electrophoresis)
  • Experience with plate-based workflows, automation, or high-throughput methods are highly desired.
  • Hands-on experience with integrated automation system operation and/or scheduling software would be an advantage.
  • Experience with Mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique is a plus.
  • Experience with LIMS and ELN is highly desirable.
  • Excellent time management skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and technical skills are required along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
