Pionyr Immunotherapeutics Inc. is a growing San Francisco-based immuno-oncology company focused on novel approaches to cancer immunotherapy.  We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated candidate for a full-time Sr. Research Associate position focused on immunohistochemistry. The candidate will have an opportunity to play an integral role in advancing our therapeutic candidates into the clinic, and supporting target and translational discovery efforts. The candidate will help establish the tissue profiling and image analysis lab at Pionyr, and perform all histology functions including tissue embedding, microtomy, staining, imaging, and data analysis.

Specific Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Routine histology work, including tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning Managing tissue collection and tissue inventory from patient samples and syngeneic mouse tumor models
  • Staining tissues with different methods including H&E, specialty stains, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF), and In Situ Hybridization (ISH)
  • Ensuring the use of appropriate positive/negative tissue controls; fixations, staining procedures/techniques, and solution preparation
  • Processing, IHC staining, imaging, and analyzing/scoring tissue sections, including Tissue Microarrays (TMAs)
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing IHC assays through data interpretation, identification of novel or alternate procedures and antigen retrieval techniques
  • Organizing and analyzing results, communicating and presenting findings in team and company meetings, and contributing to scientific publications

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters in Pathology, Histotechnology, Immunology, Cancer Biology or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in an industrial or academic lab setting
  • Previous experience working in a histology service company or core facility is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in routine histology work, including tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning Knowledge of immuno-oncology biomarkers is a plus
  • Experience in staining methods, such as H&E, Immunohistochemistry (dual color and multiplex is highly desirable), Immunofluorescence, and In Situ Hybridization
  • Experience in using and maintaining different histology and imaging equipment including the microtome, light and fluorescent microscopes (High-throughput slide scanner highly desirable)
  • Experience in using imaging software to analyze and quantify images
  • Experience with handling and staining FFPE human and rodent tissue samples and Tissue Microarrays is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to collaborate in a team setting
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment while delivering high quality work Ability to organize and maintain data, including quality control records
