We are seeking an experienced automation engineer to join our Leads Discovery & Optimization (LDO) team at our new state-of-the-art facility in Cambridge, MA. The qualified candidate will provide support to integrated robotic platforms and laboratory instrumentation group with responsibility for implementing miniaturized microtiter plate based assays on automated screening platforms, workstations and standalone instruments. The qualified candidate will have experience with primary immune cells and patient tumor cells with readouts including, NanoString, high throughput flow cytometry and confocal imaging.

  • In addition, the candidate will prioritize and execute automation hardware, software service and development requests for staff, contractors and external vendors.
  • Candidate will be responsible for facilitating and implementing capital laboratory equipment purchases and evaluate manual process workflows, scout technology and develop appropriate and cost effective technology solutions.
  • Liaise with Discovery IT, facilities and external vendors to ensure appropriate databases, utilities and environmental resources are implemented for automation and laboratory instrumentation.
  • The candidate will work in a highly matrixed environment and lead cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate support, service and vendor relationships are implemented and maintained with a focus on measuring and improving customer satisfaction and service quality.


  • Degree in Biological Sciences or Engineering field with 8+ years of experience across high throughput screening, compound management and/or cell culture
  • Applied computer science programming experience in SQL, PL/SQL, Pipeline Pilot, and automation software programming skills, such as VAL, PLC-IEC61131, C++, C#, and/or .net
  • Hands-on experience in calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratory automation, computer systems and stand-alone instruments
  • Applied computer science programming, computer engineering, and hands-on experience in calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratory automation, stand-alone instruments and computer systems is a must
  • Experience in monitoring infrastructure QC/QA metrics including, instrument availability, reliability, and utilization
  • Experience with MS Office, MS Access, MS SharePoint, Spotfire, SolidWorks, MS Visio, MS Project, Mosaic, as well as instrument software such as, Cellario, EVOware, plate::works and Momentum
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with strong customer focus
  • Skilled in supporting and leading multiple simultaneous projects integrating disparate technical disciplines - engineering, science, and information technology
  • Highly developed project management skills with experience working in diverse, multi-disciplined groups with demonstrated ability to work in a matrix and multi-site work environment, manage multiple priorities, and at times be self-directed
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Preferred experience or formal training in Lean Six Sigma or service operations management methodologies
