bluebird bio's Immunotherapy team is looking to add a highly talented and motivated candidate to its Research and Discovery group. This group identifies and develops novel strategies that enhance anti-tumor T cell activity through synthetic biology and genetic engineering. This new position will serve a critical function in providing laboratory level support to project leads with a focus on cellular and molecular immunology. As a team member, the successful candidate will use their proficiency in several immunological techniques (e.g. FACS, ELISA, western blot, qPCR, etc.) to help drive exploratory science, make recommendations on next steps and facilitate the transition to drug product.   • Perform lab associated tasks in accordance with GLP and bluebird bio lab safety policies
  • Contribute to documentation by drafting SOPs and maintaining an electronic lab notebook
  • Perform cell culture of primary T cells and tumor cell lines using aseptic technique
  • Engineer T cells using viral vectors, gene editing and additional approaches
  • Execute endpoint in vitro assays assessing T cell phenotypes and functionality using flow cytometry (FACS), western blot, ELISA/Luminex, real time PCR, etc.

About you:
  • BS/MS in cell biology, immunology or related field with 1-3+ years of laboratory experience
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture necessary (experience with culture of primary human T cells is desired)
  • Proficiency in polychromatic flow cytometry and analysis using FlowJo software
  • Competency in basic cellular and molecular biology techniques including, ELISA/Luminex, western blot, and real time PCR
  • Experience in live cell imaging using Incucyte and Celigo platforms is a plus
  • Understanding of basic cellular & molecular principles of T cell biology including phenotypes and effector functions (familiarity with T cell engineering & therapeutics is highly desired)
  • Independently motivated, detail oriented and excellent problem-solving ability
  • Outstanding organizational skills, and ability to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment with changing priorities
