The Biologics Drug Biology group in Global Biologics is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join its in vitro pharmacology team at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. This individual, with a background in neuroscience and strong technical expertise in molecular and cellular biology, will contribute to the ongoing efforts to help move projects forward. This individual's responsibilities will include assay development and validation, as well as screening and characterization of newly generated biologics for treatment of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. The successful candidate will make use of problem solving, critical thinking, and effective written and oral presentation skills in a highly-matrixed team environment. Candidates must have meticulous work habits and excellent record keeping and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Contribute technical and scientific expertise to misfolded protein pharmacology team within Biologics Drug Biology group.
  • Execute on a planned experimental design, collect, analyze, interpret and present data.
  • Develop and execute cell based assays for antibody screening and characterization.
  • Generate robust and complete data sets to support key Go/NoGo decisions on novel drug targets.
  • Develop expertise with novel technologies and laboratory techniques.
  • Work diligently and efficiently to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Read and apply relevant scientific literature
  • Adhere to safety and compliance standars
  • Participate and present in internal meetings.

Position will be hired based on level of experience.
  • BS or MS in biology or related field with 2-5+ years (BS), or 0-2+ years (MS) of pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry experience.
  • Skilled with basic laboratory techniques such as ELISA, western blotting, luminescence assays, and FRET/fluorescence assays.
  • Proficiency with cellular analytical techniques such as immunofluorescence microscopy, high-content imaging, and flow cytometry.
  • Experience working with primary rodent neurons and/or iPSC-derived neurons.
  • Proficiency with cell culture techniques, transfection and viral transduction methods.
  • Aptitude for basic statistics and software packages such as GraphPad PRISM.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills that enable multitasking and working within timelines.
  • Demonstrated record keeping, scientific writing skills, and strong verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary biologics groups in a fast paced discovery team setting
  • Participation in project teams and effective communication with team members throughout the organization
