Join bluebird bio's enthusiastic and collaborative Vector Biology/Cellular Immunotherapy team by contributing to the overall success of our novel gene therapy approach. This new Associate Scientist will join our group to develop and evaluate novel cellular immunotherapies for clinical applications.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Cloning and sequencing of novel plasmid constructs
  • Maintain mammalian cell culture for viral vector production and transduction
  • Produce lentiviral vectors and transduce primary human cells
  • Perform various molecular assays to assess the characteristics of genetically modified cells
  • Performing gene expression analysis using real time PCR
  • Prepare all technical reports needed for transition of an exploratory project from discovery to process development

  • BS/MS in molecular biology, cell biology, virology or related discipline with 2+ years' experience in a relevant field
  • Proficiency in plasmid cloning and cloning software (Vector NTI, Geneious)
  • Hands-on expertise in mammalian cell culture and transfection
  • Molecular biology techniques such as western blot, flow cytometry, viral vector and mRNA production a plus
  • Experience with qPCR assay development and analysis
  • Experience writing protocols and maintaining a detailed laboratory notebook
  • Ability to work in a team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize and balance work from multiple sources
  • Should be self-motivated, detail oriented, flexible, and have a "do-what-it-takes" attitude with excellent organizational and communication skills
