The Translational Immunology Department at our AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA is committed to elucidating the mechanisms of our therapeutics as they transition into human clinical studies and equipping them with biomarkers to aid in their progression through the pipeline. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our group using single cell RNAseq methods with flow cytometry-based validation to investigate mechanisms of human autoimmune diseases and develop biomarkers for ongoing immunology projects.

The successful candidate will work both within the Translational Immunology Department and as a member of cross-departmental interdisciplinary teams. They will be expected to design, lead and execute screens for biomarker discovery and validation, analyze and present novel results, mentor junior scientists and champion emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions. Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.
  • Learn, understand and master new experimental techniques, and act as a resource or mentor for others.
  • Innovate and implement new experimental protocols.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in his/her field.
  • Set and meet experimental timelines.
  • Effectively organize and present scientific plans and data.
  • Contribute to writing and conceptual framework of publications, presentations, and patents.
  • Routinely read and apply relevant scientific literature. Impact projects mostly through lab and/or pilot plant based activities where applicable.

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

Basic Qualifications Include:
  • BS or equivalent education with typically 5-7+ or more years of experience or MS or equivalent education with typically 2-5+ or more years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
  • Ability to multitask and work within timelines.
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills include: scRNAseq library prep, qPCR, flow cytometry, background in cellular immunology, multiparameter analysis methods, R coding skills a plus
