About the position:

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Business Development & Alliance Counsel will be primarily responsible for:
  • Providing pragmatic legal, strategic and tactical advice to support bluebird's corporate development transactions, including collaborations, licenses, acquisitions and ongoing alliances;
  • Leading the negotiation and drafting of collaboration agreements and intellectual property licenses in close partnership with business development, internal legal specialists and outside counsel;
  • Leading and coordinating legal due diligence efforts for potential transactions and negotiating preliminary transaction documents, including Term Sheets, M&A bid letters, CDAs, etc; and
  • Providing ongoing legal support to alliance management, program management and research teams responsible for bluebird's multiple corporate and academic collaborations.

About you:
  • JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in Massachusetts or other U.S. state
  • Deep experience working with internal or external clients in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Demonstrated experience (8+ years) drafting and negotiating collaborations and intellectual property licenses in the biotechnology sector, including out-licenses, in-licenses, funded R&D collaborations, cross-border transactions and joint ventures
  • Experience in both law firm and in-house settings preferred
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals from multiple departments (Business Development, Research, Development, Manufacturing, Commercial, Finance) at all levels of the organization
  • Creative problem solver with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in order to balance working on multiple projects in parallel
  • Self-directed individual who is able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, high volume environment and meet deadlines
