Oncology Drug Discovery Group Leader
As the leader for Oncology Biology Discovery in our new Cambridge, Massachusetts facility, this newly created role is accountable for the delivery of new molecular entities from early discovery to clinical for Oncology. The leader will be responsible for the definition of the Research plan and for the design and implementation of the early discovery programs. Working closely with Research Discovery organization to identify novel targets, he/she will define the medical need and clinical relevance of that target in the context of the disease, and together with the discovery and biomarker leads to define the biology profile and biomarker package required at certain critical decision points. This is an amazing opportunity to not only assess the resourcing needs for the organization but to build and the team with the appropriate needs required to deliver on the Research goals. Additionally, he/she will critically evaluate licensing opportunities both molecular and technology, across the value chain in close partnership with Business Development. This role heavily contributes to the leadership and governance of the department ensuring scientific excellence, mentoring and driving innovation. He/she will provides scientific and technical expertise to the steering committees as needed and will sit on the leadership team in Cambridge. Working in a matrixed environment, this leader will report to the Head of Oncology Biology Discovery Redwood City, CA and with strong ties to the NJ headquarters.
MD and or MD/PhD and or PhD with at least 15 years of pharmaceutical/biotech and or relevant academic experience, including demonstrated strong investigative medicine skills and experience. Track record of productive scientific or clinical management experience is required. A recognized expert in Oncology, specifically, non-immune mechanisms of oncology therapy, who can recruit and retain highly talented researchers in the Boston biomedical community. Experience in directing diverse research studies/projects as investigator. Experience in applying experimental research principles towards drug discovery. An expert recognized by the research community and key investigators for their opinion/input on experimental research and interpretation of findings. Experience successfully guiding the development of compounds from discovery through early development.
