Sound Biologics is seeking a Senior Research Associate with experience in molecular biology and protein sciences to join our Protein Engineering Group in Bothell.  Sound Biologics is an early stage biotherapeutics company focused on development of novel oncology therapies. This position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team that is creating and developing novel antibody-based technology platforms and therapeutics. The position will be focused on supporting mammalian cell culture, transient transfection, and protein purification efforts. The successful candidate should be familiar with general cell biology laboratory techniques, have a direct working knowledge regarding mammalian cell culture and protein purification, and be capable of working in a fast paced, collaborative environment.

Major Responsibilities:

1.  Contribute as an integral member of an exciting early stage biotherapeutics company

2.  Purify and characterize diverse biologics including engineered and bifunctional / bispecific antibodies for protein characterization and preclinical therapeutic assessment

3.  Perform transient transfection in mammalian expression cell lines to produce biologics. 

4.  Mammalian cell culture

5.  Maintain an accurate and well-organized digital lab notebook and sample inventory

6.  Independently design and execute experiments planned by the scientific team

7.  Document and summarize experimental results and communicate findings to the scientific team

8.  Proactively identify and execute ways to keep the lab running smoothly

9.  Problem solving---Identify problems with experiments and troubleshoot solutions

10.  Ensure goals and objectives are met and aligned to the broader organizational goals and objectives

Requirements:

1.  B.S. or M.S. degree in in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering or related discipline

2.  At least 5 years of relevant experience is required

3.  Strong oral / written communication skills and a track-record of organizational savvy  

4.  Work effectively individually and cross-functionally as a part of a larger and diverse group

5.  A strong background in protein expression and purification

6.  Knowledge of protein biochemistry and competence in routine analytical protein characterization techniques (SDS/PAGE, SEC, endotoxin testing, etc.)

7.  Strong attention to detail

8.  Strong problem-solving skills

9.  Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and requisite controlling software for purification systems

10.  Prior industry experience in therapeutic development is a plus

11.  Prior experience with antibodies and performing bioassays is a plus
