Position will be responsible for defining, designing, and delivering SAP Record to Report centric solutions that enable AbbVie's Finance organization. This position is accountable to ensure high quality solution designs that meet current and anticipated business needs. Responsibilities also include evaluating alternatives to satisfy business objectives, estimating and planning SAP warehousing and logistics projects, managing SAP Solution Architects and Configurators, and cross-project process and design governance. This position is responsible for partnering with business stakeholders and project management to provide guidance to project teams, driving effective issue management with and communication to key stakeholders, and delivering successful end results.

The position will be involved in solving complex problems that arise during the planning and execution of different IT programs and projects as well as managing the SAP support activities related to AbbVie's affiliates, manufacturing sites, shared services (like Financial Shared Services) and COE (Centers of Excellence). This position will influence senior business and IT leaders on the application strategy and SAP roadmap.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Negotiate, secures, oversee and ensure that resources are available to meet the daily operational demands of the area.
  • Oversee and control department budgets, project capital/RCE expenditures & ROI: develop, monitor and meet expense and recovery plans; continually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance.
  • Confronts and deals with employees issues in a constructive and timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain high-quality relationships with all levels across the company and with external partners.
  • Ensure Enterprise Application platforms are up to date and high quality of data integrity across finance applications is met following Enterprise Architecture guidelines.
  • Works with a matrixed team of Business and BTS resources and to ensure the efficient operation of the assigned function. Acts as the voice of customer within broader IT organization
  • Accountable for delivering robust system solutions for Finance while maximizing the usage of enterprise applications (e.g. SAP) and keeping the Finance Operating Model in place.
  • Manages 5 - 20 employees/contractors, direct/indirect at varying levels.
  • Business Impact: 100 - 1000 users


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in software engineering, business, accounting, information systems, or a discipline closely related to the client area served.
  • 15+ years of overall IT experience, including 12+ years of SAP implementations in the areas of FI (Finance), Controlling (CO), Intercompany, Fixed Assets, Treasury (including In House Cash) and Consolidations plus 3+ years supervisory experience.
  • Managing SAP projects and teams; working knowledge of all aspects of the SAP ASAP methodology including Applications, Integration, Data, Security, Change Management, Training, and Communications.
  • Demonstrable end-to-end business process knowledge in Record to Report processes which includes clear understanding of core financial business processes and leading industry technologies to address Finance requirements taking in consideration AbbVie's Finance system landscape
  • Expert level knowledge in SAP FI /CO, MM and SD Integration as well as specialized add-ons like Vertex, Paymetrics, etc.
  • Hands-on experience planning and facilitating blue print workshops and project execution (end to end).
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and financial standards (SOX) affecting Pharmaceutical Products (e.g. 21 CFR Part11, Annex11, cGMP) specifically.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in high stress and high pressure situations.
  • Effective communication and influencing Senior Leaders in business and IT.
  • Coaching and mentoring business and IT resources to ensure effective and sustainable application designs.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward goal/objective completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Strong problem resolution skills.

  • Working knowledge of AbbVie Systems, and processes related to, business systems analysis, software development and deployment.
  • Experience in project management.
  • SAP HANA upgrade or green field implementation experience.
