AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company , is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Manager, Information Technology (IT) is responsible for all aspects of the site IT department supporting the Durham NC manufacturing site. The department includes Help Desk, IT Systems Administration and Application Support. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure end-users receive the highest level of customer service available. This position also requires the incumbent to be capable of hands-on design, deployment, maintenance and support of a corporate enterprise networking environment. The ability to effectively manage staff and project manage multiple projects simultaneously is critical.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design, procurement, development, maintenance and security of the site IT infrastructure including, but not limited to, Network infrastructure, Windows Server infrastructure, Linux server infrastructure, telecommunications infrastructure, and user desktop support.
  • Coordinate infrastructure requirements across sites with other members of the Information Technology team.
  • Responsible for high availability, backup, restoration and disaster recovery planning for the site infrastructure.
  • Research, recommend, implement, and integrate enterprise solutions necessary for daily operations.
  • Ensure process management efforts are in place to collect and analyze metrics to continually improves processes owned by all site functions.
  • Responsible for asset procurement, inventory management and budgeting of core infrastructure and peripherals.
  • Perform problem analysis, troubleshooting and resolution as required for third party and internal applications.
  • Participate in key decision-making processes with all levels of site leadership regarding future growth, purchases, and projects.
  • Ensure adequate staffing within the site IT department to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Creation and management of the annual budget for IT department.
  • Develop, support and maintain change management and release processes.
  • Manage communication between IT staff and other departments.
  • Provide escalation and after hours support for IT environment.
  • Other projects as assigned by Director, Information Technology.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences/Information Technology or related life science field required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in technology implementation, application systems maintenance, and hardware support required
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role with experience building and managing an IT team
  • Experience understanding business requirements and determining the best way(s) to implement problem-solving technology.
  • Experience managing internal office networks with the ability to troubleshoot performance issues and security vulnerabilities.
  • Experience working with cloud-based software platforms.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Life Sciences/Pharma, manufacturing, FDA regulatory requirements.
  • Must have experience with GMP regulations.
  • Experience with manufacturing technology/automation (e.g., bar code reading, operating machine integration, label printing) a plus.
  • Establish close partnerships with all site functions.
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to extensively analyze business processes and workflows.
  • Strong business/client engagement skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of systems integration.
