Join a Team that Lives to Improve Lives

People come to Genentech from across disciplines and across the world to solve our most challenging medical conditions. You’ll find inspiration in our passion for biotechnology, our purpose to positively impact the lives of millions of patients and our dedication to our people. Joining Genentech means being part of a tradition of inquiry that will change the world. It means embracing our failures as much as our successes. It requires a willingness to look beyond the edge of what's possible. And a focus on doing the day-to-day work that makes great science happen.

The following opportunity exists in our South San Francisco, CA headquarters:

Biophysical Associate Scientist/Scientist, Small Molecule

Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) is seeking a talented Scientist to join the Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology Department supporting small molecule drug discovery. The successful candidate will have opportunities to drive innovation in assay development principally using surface plasmon resonance and other biophysical techniques to meet project deliverables.

In hiring new employees, we look for people who are inspired by our mission and thrive in our collaborative and scientifically rigorous culture. At Genentech, we offer employees programs, services and benefits that allow them to perform at their best by contributing to our longstanding record of bringing novel medicines to patients. In addition to supporting cross-disciplinary small molecule project teams, there will be ample opportunity for leadership roles. We will support development opportunities for leadership as needed for less experienced candidates as the employee matures in the position.

Who You Are

The candidate will have a PhD, or equivalent, in a scientific discipline applicable to drug discovery with some relevant experience beyond PhD.  Experience in the application of surface plasmon resonance, or equivalent label-free technology, is desirable but not essential.

While technical skills and techniques are important we place higher value in critical thinking, scientific acumen and a collaborative style as these qualities are essential to success in a rapidly evolving drug discovery environment. Candidates with large molecule drug discovery experience will also be considered. A broad understanding of early drug discovery while desirable is not a requirement as we will work to provide suitable training for less experienced candidates and mentoring from world class scientists.
