AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company , is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

This position is responsible for supporting the entire Global Engineering Projects group who are leading and executing capital projects at the Libertyville, La Jolla and North Carolina sites. This individual shall be able to manage multiple tasks at any one time, be extremely well organized, accountable, have good both written and verbal communication skills, along with being extremely flexible and adaptable to constant change. Ability to persevere, remove obstacles and drive tasks through to completion.

Basic knowledge in finance practices and procedures is a plus but not required. Individual will fully integrate into the global engineering organization by understanding the capital projects execution lifecycle and interacting with both equipment vendors and key clientele.

This person will be responsible for coordinating travel for the entire group, expense reports, calling on status for capital equipment, setting up critical meetings for staff and taking meeting minutes to document key decisions and action items.


  • Support the entire Global Engineering group by:
  • Scheduling meetings and booking conference rooms
  • Order, schedule and arrange for delivery of business meals
  • Prepare and submit expense reports in Concur within 3 business days of receipt
  • Arrange travel arrangements as needed
  • Attend key project team meetings to document meeting minutes with clients
  • Document key decisions made during the meeting
  • Document any action items highlighted by the team and provide updates on existing
  • Work with Project Manager to review meeting minutes within 24 hours for accuracy and then submit to team for final approval
  • Partner with the Project Manager to develop and maintain project status reports and scorecards for AveXis leadership.
  • Provide resource support and tracking on all purchase orders and invoices related to capital projects when requested by the Project Manager.
  • Track down and resolve any outstanding issues on either PO's or invoices when requested.
  • Learn current AveXis financial systems such as QAD and EAM.
  • Assist with the layout, design and finishes for the general office areas on all capital projects to ensure current standard is met.
  • Call equipment vendors to check on status, dates and any issues which may impact delivery.
  • Help maintain the GEP Sharepoint Site so it remains current and is always being continuously improved.
  • Assist with group travel through Concur, expenses and helping to schedule and coordinate important site meetings for large groups such as AveXis Senior leadership.


  • Minimum degree in applicable field or 5 years of equivalent work experience.

  • Expertise in Microsoft office and Powerpoint.

Approximately 10-20% travel required.

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
