Join bluebird bio's enthusiastic and collaborative Vector Biology team by contributing to the overall success of our novel gene therapy approach. This new Scientist will join our group to develop and evaluate novel gene therapies for oncology and severe genetic disease.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Design and cloning of novel lentiviral vectors
  • Small scale lentiviral vector production and purification for internal customers
  • Perform various molecular assays to assess the characteristics of genetically modified cells
  • Work cross-functionally with Stem Cell and Immunotherapy teams to innovate and optimize lentiviral vector function
  • Collaborate on genome-editing applications
  • Creating and organizing novel workflows
  • Management of associate scientists
  • Exercise independent judgment in development of new methods, techniques and evaluation criteria

  • PhD in biological sciences with 3+ years post-doctoral experience in gene therapy applications
  • Significant management experience
  • Expertise with molecular biology techniques and proficiency in plasmid cloning
  • Familiarity with multiple vector platforms is a plus (LVV, AAV, non-viral)
  • Hands-on expertise in mammalian cell culture and transfection
  • Experience in bioreactor and protein/vector purification is preferred
  • Ability to work in a team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize and balance work from multiple sources
  • Independently motivated, detail oriented and good problem solving ability
  • Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to embrace change and multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to influence across multiple functions
