bluebird bio seeks an experienced professional to lead the Logistics & Trade Compliance function. In this role you will have a leadership position within the Global Supply Chain organization that encompasses Supply Chain Planning, Systems, Vendor Management, Packaging Technologies and Logistics & Trade Compliance. The position reports to the Head of Global Supply Chain and is ideally suited for a professional with passion for and a proven track record of exceptional talent development and organizational leadership. There is terrific opportunity to lead and evolve this function to support a broad portfolio and advance the overall Supply Chain capabilities to deliver therapies that transform the lives of patients.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Accountable for the leadership of Logistics & Trade Compliance Operations, business process performance, people management and talent development.
  • Expertise and leadership to drive worldwide Logistics network strategy & operating models.
  • Build and manage a global physical distribution network to assure optimal inventory management/replenishment and reliable delivery of bluebird bio products
  • Build and manage Logistics Operations for optimal quality, safety, environmental sustainability, cost-effectiveness and asset utilization.
  • Lead the operations in a global, harmonized manner with execution in a decentralized way.
  • Responsible for logistics and cross-border trade activities, including those conducted in-house and by 3PLs
  • Collaborate and build productive relationships with internal business partners and stakeholders in Europe and the US to enable timely fulfillment of business requirements.
  • Contribute on Supply Chain leadership team for organization capability build as business continues to expand.
  • Direct and control trade compliance activities across all of Company including but not limited to Commercial, Clinical and R&D.
  • Partner closely with Tax, Finance, Manufacturing to provide strategic and operational input into supply chain decisions.
  • Manage implementation and user administration for Global Trade Management (GTM) system.
  • Ensure all of Company's operations are conducted in compliance with US and foreign trade laws. Act as the lead/primary representative in customs audits, inspections and regulatory agency inquiries.
  • Investigate and develop strategy and response to ensure compliance in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations. Partner with Legal regarding mitigation and disclosures.
  • Maintain and publish metrics relevant to Trade Compliance. Identify and champion continuous improvement projects and ensure corrective actions are implemented in regard to deviations or unfavorable performance.
  • Coach, develop and mentor a high-performing team with a vision of setting industry-leading standards in the area of Logistics & Trade Compliance.

Experience / Specific Job-related Skills
  • Minimum of 15 years logistics and supply chain experience is required, ideally in the pharmaceutical industry and in a complex manufacturing/supply environment
  • Minimum educational requirement is a BS or a BA.
  • Understanding of ERP systems as well as strong computer skills and advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint is necessary
  • Hands on experience in supply chain operations, logistics, trade compliance, materials management, warehouse / physical distribution, and customer order fulfillment is required
  • Must have exposure to Lean/Six Sigma principles and use of continuous improvement methodology/tools
  • Must have global operations experience, import / export operations, working knowledge of regulatory, drug licensing, and operating requirements in a global market.
  • Must have experience with global supplier relationship management, contract management & compliance, control and oversight of contractor / supplier performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and effective relationships/partnerships with peers and stakeholders
  • Effective communication, presentation, decision making, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent people management skills with multicultural background and a strong track record of developing people/talent and organizational capability
  • Extensive acumen in problem solving, managing priorities and commitment to quality & safety
  • Highly collaborative team player who fosters open communication and facilitates mutual understanding and cooperation between all stakeholders
