Primary responsibilities of the Laboratory Capital Asset Management Lead include partnering with scientific functions and RDSP operations to determine asset acquisition and maintenance needs, inventory management, and oversight of the capital purchasing execution, maintenance, and disposal processes. A critical responsibility of the role is driving continuous improvement across the asset management lifecycle and optimizing asset utilization to capture savings, improve speed, and ensure stakeholder expectations are exceeded. The role will serve as a member of cross-functional teams and oversight committees to align and implement strategies and platforms for strategic initiatives.

The Laboratory Capital Asset Management Lead will lead a team of 3 - 5 Laboratory Capital Asset Specialists. The Lead and team will also partner closely with 3rd-party strategic vendors involved with end-to-end management of laboratory capital assets to ensure high-quality delivery against service agreements. The role is highly integrated and matrixed; to be successful, it is critical that the candidate be able to form highly cooperative and collaborative relationships with RDSP teams, Global Procurement, Finance, Facilities & Engineering, scientific functions (R&D, Process Development and Manufacturing), and 3rd-party strategic partners.

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Laboratory Capital Asset Management Lead will:

• Lead in the development and deployment of global capital equipment inventory and utilization strategy that identifies opportunities for redeployment of underutilized assets and disposal of underperforming assets

• Support all regions globally in the procurement of capital equipment, including the assessment of Total Cost of Acquisition & Ownership and overall process streamlining

• Guide and collaborate with stakeholders towards a common capital equipment and Repair & Maintenance strategy. Track progress and adjust strategies of the existing 3rd-party service model to ensure continuous improvement of total cost of ownership and vendor performance.

• Lead the 'end-of-life' donation & disposal program and maximize value to BMS of disposed assets


  • Bachelor's Degree is required; MS or PhD in scientific discipline preferred but not required, MBA preferred but not required
  • 7 or more years of experience in the bio/pharmaceutical or other capital equipment-intensive industry; knowledge of laboratory asset management preferred
  • Lean / six-sigma certifications preferred but not required
  • Experience with being part of a matrixed team and leading matrixed teams working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with frequently changing priorities and competing demands
  • Ability to maintain an enterprise perspective on efficient resource utilization in a multi-project environment
  • Excellent oral & written skills and a strong ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally
  • Strong influencing / persuasive skills with a demonstrated ability to resolve conflict among individuals of different styles and individuals at different levels in organization
  • Excellent customer service and vendor management skills
  • Strong experience with business process optimization and performance measurement
  • Strong business acumen and comfort in agile delivery and learning environment
  • Capable of bringing structure to vaguely defined problems while using creative yet pragmatic problem-solving approaches and execution management
