Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Environmental Compliance Manager, assists with the implementation of established programs. Performs work on assignments and problems of limited scope requiring judgement and initiative, using standard prescribed EH&S practices and procedures. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining results. Develops content for environmental training. Frequent use and basic knowledge of practices and procedures of environmental regulations and best industry practice. Regularly researches EHS issues and actively applies knowledge to projects and daily tasks. Will work primarily in one aspect of EHS - environmental compliance.

Responsibilities:

• Executes EH&S projects and tasks based on specific instructions and with limited discretion.

• Partners with other members of the EH&S team and assists with implementing various environmental health and safety programs and initiatives under the direction of the Manager, Environmental Compliance.

• Assists with inspection, collection, storage and disposal of biohazardous, chemical and radioactive waste. Assists with waste minimization and assurance of proper disposal practices. Maintains waste rooms in an orderly fashion.

• Assists Manager, Environmental Compliance with implementation of the Regeneron Emergency Spill Response Team and emergency response programs. Available 24/7 for emergencies that may arise at Regeneron.

• Works with Environmental Compliance Manager to inventory ozone depleting substances (refrigerants) and laboratory chemicals relating to Facilities Operations.

• Actively participates in Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) inspections and EHS audits of labs, mechanical spaces, shop and support areas and offices. Provides follow-up to action items as necessary.

• Writes clear and concise EHS related communications, including e-mails, letters, policies and procedures as required; may assist with revising environmental related policies and procedures are required.

• Assists with EHS on the job and classroom training regarding specific techniques in handling chemical, biological and radioactive hazards.

• Works with other team members to maintain and organize EH&S stock rooms.

• Develops skills by participation in professional development training and activities.

Requirements:

• Basic knowledge of practices and procedures and EH&S concepts such as various health and safety programs including hazard communication, laboratory safety, radiation safety and infection control programs

• Developing skills essential to being successful with EH&S duties such as waste disposal, safety equipment inspections, industrial hygiene surveys and assisting with environmental management

• Has conceptual knowledge of EH&S practices and will learn procedures

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Computer literate. Ability to learn specialized software applications. Ability to develop and conduct EHS training sessions. EMT certification is a plus.

Required Licenses & Certificates: Advanced degree and/or certifications (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, and/or Medical Emergency Technician) are a plus.
Minimum Years of Experience: 1-3 years
Minimal Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree
