Position Summary
The Assistant General Counsel (AGC) is primarily responsible for providing legal support to the franchises that are charged with the marketing and sales of certain Ipsen products in various therapeutic areas in the US. The position is diverse and demanding, requiring a broad range of experience and a desire to provide legal counsel across a growing and fast-paced, solutions-oriented organization. In addition to primary business unit support, the AGC also provides primary support for Medical Affairs and the Compliance Function. The AGC also provides support and legal guidance to the Value & Access function (contracting, reimbursement, patient support). The AGC will work with all levels of employees, including senior management. This role requires experience, good judgment and flexibility in a highly-regulated and compliant business. This role provides the opportunity for visibility as a leader in the organization, as well as to engage with Ipsen's Corporate Legal Department in Paris, France on a wide range of issues.

Essential duties & responsibilities:
  • The AGC will provide primary legal support for certain Ipsen products by working closely with the leadership teams and other employees on all aspects of the commercial business.
  • The AGC serves on a number of Ipsen's committees, including the promotional review committee, grant review committee and medical review committee.
  • The AGC provides timely and strategic counsel to the franchises on strategic and tactical initiatives with respect to relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including, for example, patient assistance and reimbursement programs, advisory boards and market research.
  • The AGC identifies issues and collaborates with colleagues of all levels to find solutions to critical problems early in the strategic development process; reviews strategic and tactical plans, and various medical and educational materials.
  • The AGC works closely with Ipsen's Compliance Office to address commercial, medical, clinical and corporate compliance issues.
  • Provide support as needed to Corporate Legal Affairs regarding compliance issues, business development and alliance management in North America.

  • 12+ years practicing law
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience including regulatory and commercial support and business counseling, including significant pharmaceutical company experience
  • Experience implementing change initiatives and working in a challenging business environment
  • Established leadership skills, both within business project and process teams and within law departments
  • Strong communications skills, verbal and written
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Solid track record of building strong working relationships and working with different personality types
  • Strong work ethic; positive outlook; commitment to legal and business teams
  • Collaborative style; team player
