The Facilities Project Manager is responsible for planning, execution, and successful close-out of all sanctioned Facilities and Lab build-out projects. Additionally, the position has oversight and ownership of facility-space planning and design consultant/assignment to support an efficient space forecast.

  • Planning and delivering the project scope by navigating stakeholder's expectations (Lab and Facilities Space: Project Owner) by managing internal and external resources.
  • Project performance against established targets (cost and schedule)
  • Monitoring, controlling and reporting on project status including issues and opportunities
  • Ensuring the successful return of the facility, lab equipment and/or systems for the routine operations
  • Successful planning, budgeting, and delivery of facilities space planning projects at multiple geographic locations.


50%: Project Implementation ­à oversees all design, procurement, development, fabrication, installation and commissioning of systems, space, equipment and lab build-outs per bluebird bio's Project Work Process (PWP). Maintain open communication with stakeholders for the scope development and modification through out the life cycle of the project.

10%: Project Planning à works with functional/lab/space area representative to develop plans to successfully implement project scope while optimizing resources investment and risk tolerance. Accordingly, develop project charter per the user requirement specification to define key performance index for the project.

10%: Project Initiation à works with project sponsor and solution providers to identify key project drivers, objectives and requirements.

30%: Facilities Space Planning à leads and works with space planning consultants for the space planning and design efforts the company is embarking upon to meet its growing demand for office and laboratory space. Responsible for proactively developing and maintaining a data driven strategic space plan with quarterly updates supporting the company's growth is a key responsibility.

  • 5-7 years of experience in managing Facilities Projects is required
  • BS in Architecture, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, Interior Design, or Architecture or a related field is preferred
  • Experience developing/monitoring a space planning and design is required
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence and the incorporation of multiple points of view
  • Be a motivated self-starter, who is detail oriented and has strong problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Experience with MS Project, Primavera, Excel, and Visio
  • Knowledge and basic familiarity with space planning, and engineering tools; e.g. AutoCAD, FM Systems, Archibus.
  • A keen negotiation sense and experience to differentiate user needs versus wants
  • Familiarity with the GxP process and workflows

  • Advanced Architecture or Design degree
