AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company , is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Director, Training and Development will report to the Sr. Director of Training and will be a key member of the training team within the company's commercial organization. This position is based at AveXis' headquarters in Bannockburn, IL. The Director, Training and Development will partner closely with cross-functional, commercial team members and leadership as well as the legal/compliance teams to develop training strategies and programs that support business objectives and strategic initiatives.

The Director, Training and Development will develop department learning strategies and overall design and delivery of the training programs necessary to enhance existing programs and to create effective training solutions to meet immediate and long-term goals of the commercial organization. The Director, Training and Development will consult with key team members and leadership to ensure ongoing training and development meets current commercial needs and is delivered effectively using adult learning principles. Finally, the Director, Training and Development will provide technical expertise, guidance and leadership to management of training curriculum design and delivery and serve as a program manager for programs whose outcome affects multiple areas of the commercial organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all internal and external stakeholders to build high impact training programs that align to strategic business imperatives
  • Work closely with team members and leadership cross functionally to ensure implementation of optimal training for the commercial organization
  • Develop and implement training programs and content to support business objectives and improve performance behaviors
  • Partner and play an integral role in compliance training
  • Reinforce a learning culture by leveraging multiple avenues, such as surveys, assessments, forums and team effectiveness
  • Work with vendor and consultant services as needed to augment training and development initiatives
  • Share best demonstrated practices and informs team of new training programs
  • Organize, facilitate, and continually improve field training, meetings, and the execution of new materials
  • Proactively conduct on-going communications with team members to identify training needs and develop specific training objectives to meet those needs
  • Evaluates innovative technology or methodologies for the design and delivery of critical training to employees and managers.
  • Serves as the highest-level resource providing technical expertise, guidance and leadership to management in training curriculum design and delivery
  • Serves as a program manager for programs whose outcome affects multiple areas of the commercial organization


Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree, and a minimum of 10 years of progressive pharmaceutical experience with a minimum of 5 years in training desired
