The Protein Homeostasis Thematic Center of Excellence (PH TCoE) is seeking an experienced mass spectrometrist for a position within an exciting multi-disciplinary target discovery and proteomics team. The successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise in the operation and maintenance of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) systems, and in proteomics sample preparation. The candidate will work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment to deliver field-leading proteomics research in support of small molecule drug discovery and early development projects. Our ideal candidate will exhibit strong technical capabilities, adaptability, a great communicative attitude, and enthusiasm for working towards innovative therapies for patients with cancer, immune-inflammatory, and other unmet medical needs.

Protein Homeostasis at Celgene

The PH TCoE at Celgene is a fundamental research and early development engine that is agnostic to therapeutic modality or disease area. The group integrates discovery research through translational and early clinical development, and focuses on numerous aspects of protein homeostasis including the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), protein translation, and RNA processing and stability. This thematic focus allows the group to capitalize on the cutting edge science that underpins the action of the company's most advanced drugs. Not being bound by disease area or therapeutic modality creates a very dynamic, exciting and creative environment that exploits excellent science in biology, biochemistry, structural biology, computational biology and translational development.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, the following:
  • Operation and routine maintenance of LC-MS systems for proteomics research.
  • Monitoring and optimization of LC-MS system performance.
  • Proteomics sample preparation, including tissue culture.
  • Assist in the design of proteomics experiments to meet the needs of PH TCoE projects.
  • Data organization, processing and dissemination.
  • Preparing technical reports and protocols.
  • Reviewing literature, and evaluating/applying relevant novel methods.

  • Master's degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry or a related discipline, with at least 4 years of work experience operating and maintaining LC-MS systems, or Bachelor's degree with at least 6 years of work experience.
  • Deep understanding of proteomics mass spectrometry, and protein and peptide chemistry is essential.
  • Hands-on experience with nanoflow LC systems and hybrid mass spectrometers (Orbitrap is preferred)
  • Experience with LC-MS method development.
  • Proficiency with proteomics data processing workflows. Familiarity with data handling languages and tools (e.g. Python, R, Knime, Vortex etc.) and LIMS is an advantage.
  • Practical experience with protein chemistry, molecular biology and/or tissue culture.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a commitment to delivering high quality research.
