Amgen is seeking a Technology Strategy and Innovation Senior Manager that will function as a Product Innovation Lead and Data Translator at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Product Innovation Lead and Data Translator serves as the critical link and interface to the product and brand teams, with a focus on problem and needs identification along the customer (patient, physician, and/or payer) journey and identification of potential technology solutions.

The Technology Strategy and Innovation Senior Manager, will report to the Executive Director Digital Health and will be responsible for driving Amgen's portfolio-level view of key technologies in support of its medicines. The Senior Manager will also will help product teams identify challenges and potential technology solutions to improve the value of Amgen's medicines to patients and to the healthcare system.

For this Senior Manager, international and domestic travel up to 20% may be essential.

Responsibilities of the Technology Strategy and Innovation Senior Manager include:

  • Serves as the primary point-of-contact and "thought partner" for the rest of the organization to support problem identification, generate ideas, and identify potential technology solutions. This can include:
    • Managing communication with Product Teams and US Brand Teams and liaising with ex-US brand teams
    • Facilitating ideation sessions and help product / brand teams understand the technology opportunities
    • Managing any additional work needed to refine solution hypotheses before they are ready for preliminary assessment
    • Serving one or more Global Product General Managers as a technology expert, to help capture all internal innovation projects and facilitate the rapid sharing of best practices around the world
    • Contributing to the development of an integrated technology strategy
  • Serves as the critical resource and subject matter expert in the discovery, evaluation and selection of innovative technologies, in particular, application of appropriate data science methodologies
  • Works closely with Technology Hub Prospectors, Venture Capital Firms, and internal Technology Groups across the portfolio to discover, evaluate, and select innovative technologies
  • Bridges the relationships between the data science team and key decision makers, combining sufficient understanding of data science methodologies with understanding of the business needs to guide advanced analytics efforts for impact
  • Serves as key resource for data science team, providing therapeutic area understanding and health care data expertise. This can include:
    • Articulating therapeutic area business problems to data science team
    • Ensuring results align with needs of U.S. and ex-U.S. Product teams and Brand teams
    • Acting as a resident domain expert, offering deep knowledge of the business and translating the language of that domain
    • Assisting the data science team in communicating complex insights, results, and processes to decision makers in a manner that is clear and accessible to the decision maker, framing the results in a way that the decision-makers can interpret and execute on

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Technology, Strategy and/or Innovation experience
Master's degree and 4 years of Technology, Strategy and/or Innovation experience
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Technology, Strategy and/or Innovation experience

Associate's degree and 10 years of Technology, Strategy and/or Innovation experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Technology, Strategy and/or Innovation experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong capabilities in project management and problem solving, with a deep understanding of the technology and biopharma sectors
  • Well-developed communication and leadership skills, to ensure that assessment teams are staying on track and navigating roadblocks and to convey in a simple manner the complex technologies and data science methodologies available for problem-solving
  • Strong storytelling abilities, to successfully contextualize the data science team's output in a manner that is understandable and actionable for decision makers
  • Broad familiarity across functional areas, including regulatory, marketing, and clinical
  • Previous consulting experience with pharma, biotech, medtech and private equity clients
  • Comfortable providing objective point-of-view and willing to "dive deeper" and seek deep understanding about all aspects of therapeutic area, business needs, and data science, to provide best results for business
