Senior Research Associate/Scientist, Mammalian Aging

Executing on this mission will require an unprecedented level of interdisciplinary effort and a long-term focus for which funding is already in place.

 Position description

Calico is seeking a scientist to join a cutting-edge laboratory focused on tackling aging through basic research and translational efforts. Aging is a multifaceted process, and the lab studies aging at the system level in mammalian models by employing automated monitoring technologies to quantify multiple aspects of physiological decline simultaneously in individual animals. The lab also tests translational aging interventions using these technologies.

In this role you will design, plan and execute in vivo and in vitro studies aimed at understanding and ameliorating aging using mammalian models. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated experimentalist who likes to test ideas with their own hands, enjoys developing new methodology, and thinks anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Qualifications

Position requirements

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences, cell and molecular biology, or related field (title will be commensurate with experience)
  • Extensive experience with physiological mammalian research (experimental design, dosing, phenotyping, tissue isolation, histology)
  • Experience with modern techniques in molecular biology, protein analysis, and mammalian cell culture
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills

Highly valued qualifications

  • Experience coding in Python or R, with statistical know-how
  • Cellular reprogramming and iPSC culture
  • Functional genomics screening
