Director, Business Development

Reports To: Senior Vice President, Corporate Development

JOB SUMMARY: The Director, Business Development will serve as a key member of the Corporate Development team, working closely with cross functional partners to progress initiatives that support the corporate strategy and goals. The candidate will lead or provide support to a variety of transactions, including pipeline/technology in-licensing and out-licensing transactions. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and developing a broad range of partnerships based on Synthrox’s capabilities and platform.

• Work closely with corporate development leadership and broader cross-functional teams to build enterprise value through the execution of strategic alliances and licensing transactions
• Establish strong working relationships with scientific team and functional leads, e.g. Preclinical Development, Clinical Development, Manufacturing, Legal and Finance
• Develop key partner target lists and implement business development strategies focused on those partner targets
• Lead business development workstreams, including technical/scientific assessments, analysis of the competitive landscape, and financial modelling
• Manage and lead multiple, complex transactions in business development with limited supervision
• Stay abreast of new developments in key therapeutic areas; synthesize and share findings and recommendations with corporate development leadership and the broader team
• Analyze internal corporate development processes and make recommendations for process improvement to drive efficiencies and improve deal execution and management
• Maintain close communications with prospective partners to ensure knowledge of platform and offering is current to maximize potential opportunities
• Travels up to 30 - 40% of the time

• BA/BS in science field required; PhD/MD/MS in life sciences or MBA preferred
• Minimum of 10 years of industry experience, including 3-5 years of business development experience, including term sheet and contracting experience
• Excellent communication skills ability to clearly and effectively communicate to a broad range of audiences
• Financial modelling skills and slide development expertise required
• Strategic thinker with good quantitative analytical abilities
• Knowledge of biopharma product development and commercialization experience; oncology and autoimmune focus is a plus
• Experience building relevant relationships with various scientific and business teams within pharmaceutical companies
