Support Development Sciences' scientific and operational leadership by providing financial guidance and execution of Plans/Updates/LRPS/LBEs for external development project costs. Development Sciences is made up of multiple functional organizations in Lake County and Germany, and is responsible for external R&D activities of over $400MM. Position will have specific responsibilities for the Drug Product Development (DPD) and Process Research and Development (PRD) groups. DPD performs analytical and stability work for different drug formulations and dosing, while PRD manages Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing to be used in clinical studies.

Key Responsibilities Include:

This position will provide comprehensive financial support for the DPD and PRD groups. In addition to performing monthly accounting close duties, variance analysis, and monthly reporting analytics, the position will also drive the financial planning process. Further responsibilities include various reporting packages/analyses that provide management with timely and relevant information on external expenditures. Planning, monitoring, and analyzing external development project costs will be required.

Candidate will also be responsible for various additional initiatives such as streamlining the international drug shipment process, becoming the subject matter expert on systems (SAP, SRM, TM1), as well as performing ad-hoc analyses on a regular basis.

A strong work ethic combined with the ability to work cross-functionally is critical for success in this position. This position needs to function independently in accomplishing the goals and responsibilities detailed above and will be an integral member of the functional team working closely with members of both finance and functional operation divisional management. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential, as is the desire to engage and understand in the activities of the DPD & PRD operations team.

Problem Solving:

Ability to work with senior level scientific/operations personnel to translate development plans and actions into their financial impact which can be understood by senior management.

Ability to assess the reasonableness of expense forecasts and willingness to work cooperatively with operations personnel to ensure adequate support of decisions and information.

Willingness to learn how pharmaceutical pipeline development is conducted, which will better enable the individual to connect finance with operations and ensure high quality support.

Ability to review processes, identify improvement opportunities, and work with diverse functions to implement improvements and adapt to change as necessary.

  • Bachelor's degree required; Finance or Accounting preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive Accounting or Finance Experience
  • Experience with TM1, SRM, SAP, Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint
