General Position Summary/Purpose:

Reporting to the Associate Director of IT Infrastructure Engineering, the Senior Network Engineer is to provide hands-on technology leadership in the planning, engineering, architecture, deployment, and management of all production compute, storage, network, and voice/telepresence infrastructure as well as supporting applications. He/She will work as part of a high-caliber team of experienced IT professionals, to ensure uptime, availability, and performance SLAs are met in an environment that is constantly evolving and expanding. A bright, enthusiastic, flexible, energetic, and results-driven professional, who works best in a multi skilled team, sometimes during non-core business hours, is the perfect candidate for this important position.

Essential duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and with limited supervision to monitor and maintain the integrity and security of compute, storage, network, and voice/telepresence infrastructure as well as supporting applications onsite, in the datacenter, and in the cloud.
  • Serve as the technical lead on project teams for infrastructure implementations, upgrades and enhancement.
  • Support all Systems, Networking and Telecommunication hardware and software throughout the service lifecycle.
  • Assist in installing, maintaining, and configuring and testing network hardware/software, including servers, routers, switches and firewalls.
  • Focus on process automation in a secure, high-performance, highly available, and fully resilient infrastructure.
  • Monitor and maintain system stability, business continuity, backup processes, automation, orchestration and staying abreast of patches.
  • Adhere to procedures in accordance with incident, problem, configuration, and change management and maintain compliance and audit readiness.
  • Monitor Servers, Network and Storage systems on a daily basis.
  • Fault detection, isolation, resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Participate in structured and documented post-change system testing, enhancing tests as needed when functionality is added.
  • Maintain infrastructure in a qualified state.
  • Assist in code promotion and software upgrades utilizing established change control procedure.
  • Explore new technologies to improve efficiency and maximize performance and work with vendors to procure necessary equipment
  • Evaluate commercial and open-source tools to improve efficiency.
  • Performance analysis and optimization as well as capacity planning.
  • Help develop the methods and techniques we use to design and operate the network (using tools such as Solarwinds).
  • Work with vendors to diagnose and resolve unusually complex network device software and hardware problems.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues related to the network.
  • Participate in an after-hours on call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience and Education Requirements (degree, certifications, etc):

  • 10+ years of direct related experience in infrastructure and network engineering with telephony
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant work experience
  • Deep knowledge in network design and implementation of common data and voice platforms
  • Strong experience as a Network Engineer managing and administering network infrastructure
  • Deep knowledge of routers, switches, load balancers, SSL acceleration dynamic routing protocols, DNS, DHCP, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, RADIUS, TACACS, STP, LAN/WAN, MPLS, SD-WAN, Riverbed etc.
  • Cisco ASA, Cisco UCS, Cisco Nexus, Cisco Wireless
  • Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco Firewalls
  • Netapp Storage (FC. ISCSI, CIFS), Pure Storage, Dell Hyperconverged
  • VMWare Vsphere 5.5, 6.5, ESXI
  • Ansible Tower or other automation tools
  • Solarwinds
  • Citrix Xenapp, Netscaler and Xendesktop
  • Cisco IDS
  • Mitel Business Phone System
