The Director, Talent and Development will be part of a high-energy team whose primary focus is to support Pharmacyclics" strategic talent management strategy and initiatives. This individual will be instrumental in educating and consulting with leaders and Business Human Resources (HR) on talent management best practices to drive talent outcomes and business performance.

Primary Job Function / Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with BHR and key stakeholders to establish and implement talent and development strategies in PCYC in alignment with the broader AbbVie Talent Management and Executive & Leadership Development strategy.
  • Partner with and coach leadership to identify top talent within the organization and differentiate their development, creating a deep pipeline of talent. Guide the Human Resources and Leadership team to shape the talent agenda and make associated talent decisions that align with the business strategy.
  • Lead process implementation for Performance Management and Talent Reviews; train BHR on practice, process and tools. Support BHR and leaders to implement the processes consistently. Drive better process and talent outcomes year over year.
  • Provide proficient consultation on all phases of talent management such as succession management, assessment and feedback, talent pipelines, selection processes, and senior leader transitions.
  • Assess outcomes of talent management processes; work with BHR and partner organizations to identify themes. Provide insights that lead to solutions and actions to build capability of talent.
  • Execute on talent strategies for critical capabilities, measurably strengthening the talent bench.
  • Collaborate with AbbVie Talent Development to assess and design necessary development to fill gaps in the talent pipeline for high potential and high performing employees, or key teams.
  • Partner closely with colleagues in Business Human Resources (BHR) to ensure coordinated effort and impact on talent pipeline in the organization.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the leadership of the PCYC HR and more broadly AbbVie Talent Development & Management.

As part of the Talent Development Remit:

  • Drive Talent Development strategy and initiatives across PCYC including:
  • Customize global solutions, if needed, and design/develop area-specific- PCYC specific solutions to augment AbbVie leadership solutions
  • Contribute to the design/development of global solutions contributing PCYC perspective
  • Implement related services, programs, resources, and tools for California and Swiss Offices
  • Manage and facilitate learning events for select PCYC business leaders and key talent
  • Evaluate and report long term impact metrics; identify implications and trends relevant to strategic decisions/future actions

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Major in Business preferred. Masters degree an asset.

Experience/Training Required:

  • 8 years in Human Resources Management with emphasis in Talent Management practice and process development.
  • Demonstrated results in working in a matrix and virtual environment required; prefer experience working in BioPharma and Bay Area for large multinational company.
  • Proven experience leading teams directly and indirectly; effective in managing complex projects across multi-disciplinary, matrix environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build executive ready presentations, communicate with executive audiences.
  • Experience with developing strategies and implementing the related tactics.
  • Experience leveraging senior business leaders to sponsor solutions.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and consulting skills.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Human Resources or Business Management.
  • Experience in Pharmaceutical industry
  • Fluency and experience working with HR analytics.

Accountability/Scope:

  • Reports to the Head of HR, Pharmacyclics; define and deliver solutions for PCYC in the US and Europe while ensuring alignment and collaboration with AbbVie programs and processes.
