Scientist/Sr. Scientist –Target Discovery and Biology

Pionyr Immunotherapeutics Inc., a growing San Francisco-based immuno-oncology company focused on novel approaches to generate anti-tumor immunity, is seeking a qualified Scientist to play an integral role in moving our discovery research efforts into the clinic. We are seeking a talented and motivated team member to primarily support our target discovery and biology validation efforts. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in molecular biology research and NGS technologies, preferably in single-cell genomics. This will be a primarily lab-based position with some downstream bioinformatic/computational work.

Specific Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Drive Pionyr’s single-cell sequencing based target discovery platform
  • Help design and execute in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experiments to investigate target biology, mechanism-of-action and efficacy response
  •  Propose and validate novel therapeutic targets by combining understanding of mechanistic biology in immune oncology with human genetics and pathology
  • Organize and analyze results, communicate and present findings in team meetings, and contributing to scientific publications
  • Troubleshoot and optimize assays through data interpretation, identification of novel or alternate procedures and techniques, and timely execution
  • Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing company priorities


  • PhD degree in a biomedical science with at least 3 years of relevant research experience, particularly in a biotech setting
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA & RNA isolation, and qPCR
  • Experience with a variety of NextGen library preparation techniques and sequencing platforms
  • Basic knowledge of expression-based analyses of NGS data, including short-read sequence alignment, QC methods, and differential expression
  • Basic proficiency in Python/Perl and R
  • Motivation to learn and use new and emerging techniques for single-cell based RNA and protein profiling
  • Ability to design, develop, and execute research activities. This includes every aspect of the process from review of relevant literature through execution of experiments 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to collaborate in a team setting
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment while delivering high quality work
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of experimental methods and results
  • Ability to critically interpret and effectively present data
