Position Summary

Summary: Plans, designs, and oversees complex design and construction projects. Projects include renovation and repurposing of existing space and may include complete design and construction of new buildings. Applies well developed and broad functional knowledge in a wide variety of complex situations within Facilities Engineering.

Essential Duties, Skills and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manages complex design and construction projects with minimal supervision.

• Conducts preliminary surveys and prepares schematic, preliminary and work drawings for the construction and maintenance of new or remodeled facilities.

• Estimates cost of projects, writes contracts and specifications for labor materials, and equipment for construction projects, and secures bids from contractors.

• Evaluates and makes recommendations concerning changes in contract documents and ensures that authorized changes are implemented, in accordance with federal, state, and local building codes.

• Consults with architects, engineers, owners, and contractors regarding preliminary layout, construction procedures, and code requirements that apply to building projects.

• Manages cost, schedule, and scope of facilities related projects including renovations, new equipment installs, and new construction.

• Coordinates projects with other departments to minimize risk and impact to existing and ongoing operations:
o Compiles required documents for seamless turnover of new or renovated space/equipment to area managers and facilities for maintenance.
o Supports equipment qualification efforts an executes new equipment commissioning.
o Enters data for new area/equipment into existing quality systems and databases as needed.
o Coordinates any necessary specialized training for new systems and equipment.

• Completes complex analysis and determines project feasibility and design requirements:
o Inspects existing facilities to ascertain their condition.
o Prepares reports depicting the condition, deficiencies observed, designs necessary for repairs, and estimated cost of repairs.
o Designs, prepares, and/or reviews plans of construction projects.

• May oversee work of junior level engineers and others, including contractors.

• Designs and implements work in compliance with all safety, site cleanliness, and current good manufacturing practices (cGMP's).

• Able to set priorities within projects to align with department and/or business initiatives.

• Able to write advanced comprehensive reports to proactively communicated project status with customers and stakeholders.

• Able to generate technical reports to establish position or justification for design and operational decisions.

• Able to work with a team to gather consensus in a timely manner to keep projects advancing to completion.

• Able to generate novel options and solutions to complex facility problems.

• Able to accept and operate within ambiguity and changing priorities.

• Ability to maintain documents, records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.

• Able to communicate and interact with front line personnel as well as senior leadership.

• Able to communicate proactively and is able to remain objective when addressing potentially controversial issues.
Education and Experience:

• This position requires a minimum of a BS degree in a relevant engineering discipline along with minimum 5 years of relevant experience or MS degree with 4 years of relevant experience.
