Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products - Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti - and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer.

AbbVie is expanding its oncology hub on the West Coast, with three sites in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City, South San Francisco, and Sunnyvale) focused on the discovery and development of novel oncology therapies. More than 1,000 AbbVie scientists, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots work across these three sites. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments. This position is based at Stemcentrx, AbbVie's South San Francisco, CA location.

As part of a talented and multi-disciplinary team advancing an exciting new approach to drug discovery and development, the successful candidate will develop and manage automated processes to support Antibody Discovery workflows. This will include hybridoma sequencing, small-scale transient transfections, protein purification, and flow cytometry assay setup. The successful candidate will contribute to the execution of these automated workflows. This will be a highly collaborative role, and will include work with: i) software developers to ensure that data generated from automated workflows are properly recorded and analyzed; ii) external vendors to ensure that the robotics is properly maintained and supplied, and novel solutions are configured properly; and iii) other scientists in the lab to ensure that all users are properly trained and all automated workflows meet the needs of the users. The successful candidate will also keep up-to-date on new and existing lab protocols and proactively identify areas where automation can help and implement them.

  • B.S or M.S., with 4-8 years of experience, preferably in industry.
  • Must have hands-on, in-depth experience in the setup of high throughput screening assay development utilizing automatic liquid handlers. Proficiency with protocol development on Hamilton, Tecan or Beckman robotics is highly preferred.
  • Experience in assay and protocol development is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Standard Molecular Biology techniques is preferred (RT-PCR, quantitative RT-PCR/PCR, DNA isolation, PCR, Nucleic acid extraction, Gel Electrophoresis)
  • Experience in the analysis of antibody sequences is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ideal candidates must be motivated, organized, and disciplined with record keeping
  • Great personality and excellent communication skills.
