This position reports to the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager and provides support for the EH&S performance of the plant. This includes the following areas/programs:
  • Production support
  • Maintaining compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Abbvie EH&S regulations
  • Evaluating risk and preventing catastrophic events
  • Supporting EH&S programs (i.e. Environmental, Process Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Machine Guarding, Behavior-Based Safety, etc.)
  • Assuring plant personnel work in a safe environment and with the proper safety tools, equipment, and procedures.
  • Providing EH&S support for new product launches

Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide senior technical leadership in the interpretation and scope of application of environmental, health & safety regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Partner with cross functional peers to ensure the success of the goals and objectives of the plant
  • Track Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) highlighting plant progress in EHS program development and progress within these programs.
  • Partner with Training peers to develop and implement EH&S training programs to ensure compliance with EH&S regulations, foster safe work habits, and minimize environmental impacts.
  • Provide routine communication to plant, division and corporate management on status of EHS compliance and program development. Lead monthly meetings with site management to review current results and identify and plan for overcoming upcoming challenges
  • Communicate and represent facility management with EHS regulatory agency officials, assist Management in the areas of compliance inspections, regulatory surveys, response to regulatory citations and notices of violations should they occur.
  • Ensure Waste Water Discharge, Waste Management and Air Emissions Management compliance, monitoring and reporting
  • Evaluate the safety and health compliance of the plant on a periodic basis. Identify program strengths and weaknesses, specify corrective action and work directly with peers to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses and work with peers to develop corrective actions to mitigate future occurrences. Complete trend analysis for communication to management.


  • Bachelor's Degree (EHS related, Engineering, Chemistry) plus 3-5+ years of EHS related experience or Master's Degree (EHS related, Engineering, Chemistry). EHS or Engineering professional certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Experienced in Process Safety Management preferred but not required.
  • Working experience in implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, and managing cross functional teams.
  • Positive track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external clients/resources; ability to successfully negotiate with peers, customers, regulators and governmental officials
  • Ability to establish measurable project goals and implementation plans, balance conflicting work demands, and develop action plans.
  • Ability to develop standards and/or policies that meet business objectives.
  • Ability to actively listen, builds and maintains effective working relationships with internal/ external colleagues and stakeholders, and resolve conflict constructively.
  • Ability to successfully manage project and programs.
  • Ability to support 24/7/365 and on-call operations
