The Associate Director, Center for Observational Research & Data Sciences (CORDS), Data Strategy is an individual contributor responsible for supporting BMS' RWD strategy, globally across R&D. Components of this role include leading multiple internal key customer data strategy work streams including team members from CORDS, R&D, IT, procurement, legal and others in a consultative way as well as engaging vendors to create an advanced data ecosystem. This role requires a self-motivated, high-energy individual who can easily function in a performance-driven environment. He / she must be accustomed to working on multiple tasks in parallel as well as applying constant attention to changing priorities and needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
  • Collaborate in a consultative manner across various R&D team members, matrix stakeholders and vendors to bring the best data forward for research initiatives
  • Partner with IT and business stakeholders to implement an intuitive, metadata-driven, data catalog, creating visibility and knowledge sharing across RWD assets
  • Partner with procurement and R&D team members to drive adoption of a streamlined RWD assessment, evaluation, acquisition and governance process
  • Lead data strategy governance work streams by ensuring appropriate stakeholder engagement, progress, coordinating team meetings and keeping key players updated on progress
  • Engage and collaborate with internal team members and partners (CORDS, HEOR, procurement, legal and other matrix team members) across R&D to execute BMS' data strategy governance model
  • Synthesize progress / updates, develop recommendations and effectively / efficiently communicate (orally, written and via ppt) results to teams - developing presentations that clearly / concisely articulate a story
  • Balance demands across multiple data strategy implementation components, shifting priorities when required


Requirements:
  • EDUCATION: BA / BS Degree; Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years working knowledge of real-world pharmaceutical / healthcare data
  • Experience working for or collaborating with data vendors / suppliers 3 years
  • Understanding of data environments / ecosystems including traditional and hosted 5 - 7 years
  • Management consulting (strategy) experience 2+ years preferred
  • Model building and machine learning a plus


REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Thorough understanding of RWD sources across all channels and their appropriate use for research purposes
  • Proficiency in SAS and / or SQL or R (4+ years of experience) - knowledge of multiple programming languages like Java, python or C a plus
  • Data problem solving skills, with a creative and innovative outlook
  • Experience in leading organizational change and executing data governance
  • Understanding of databases / environments including traditional and hosted
  • Experience working with technical data management / database and IT teams
  • Strong attention to detail, with a quality-focused mindset
  • Proven oral / written communication and presentation skills that enable concise, efficient and effective communication with senior-level decision makers
