Systems Scientist, Sensory Neuroscience - New York, NY

We are seeking an exceptional, objective-oriented post-doctoral systems scientist to join a dynamic, cutting-edge research program in the chemical senses. You will become part of a multi-disciplinary discovery team in New York City and collaborate with members of the company’s global R&D community to elucidate the information-processing mechanisms underlying olfactory perception. In particular, strong mathematical and/or computational expertise is sought, with a strong preference for additional expertise in deep-learning techniques, systems biology, information theory, complex systems analysis, biophysics, or related disciplines. Experience in olfactory biology, organic chemistry or sensory neuroscience would be an advantage. Applicants must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be comfortable working in a team environment and have a track record of scientific accomplishment.

Essential Skills and Expertise:

  • PhD in computer science, physics, applied mathematics, neuroscience, systems biology, or related field with 2+ years of post-doctoral academic or industry research experience.
  • Ability and motivation to quickly acquire new skills and craft creative solutions.
  • Mathematical modelling, machine-learning, software development.

Main Tasks:

  • Lead projects to address fundamental scientific questions in this area of research.
  • Develop and analyze computational/mathematical models of olfactory encoding and develop software for integrating these with experimental data.
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of relevant knowledge and technologies.
  • Continually identify opportunities to improve current procedures, protocols, and systems.
  • Participate in scientific discussion and information sharing with the wider research team.
  • Present results at team and department meetings, and at external scientific conferences.
  • Write manuscripts of scientific results and submit for publication in top-rated, peer-reviewed journals, patent applications, and/or internal company reports.
