The department of Drug Product Science & Technology at Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated scientist to be part of the Materials Science & Engineering group. The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for the analysis and characterization of biologic drug candidates in support of formulation and process development throughout all stages of clinical and commercial drug product development. The individual will also be responsible for the characterization of novel drug delivery systems for oral and parenteral delivery.

Major Duties And Responsibilities:
• As a member of cross-functional product development programs support all projects from concept through commercialization.
• Identify and develop innovative technologies to meet these user needs through an effective balance of internal vs. external development activities.
• Develop intellectual property leading to differentiated drug delivery platforms. Support Regulatory filing activities.
• Serve as a mentor for junior scientists in the group for their professional and technical development.
• Maintain an overview of state-of-the-art technologies within drug delivery through understanding of technologies, clinical practice, regulatory environment, competitive and intellectual property landscape assessment.
• Provide support for all aspects of technology development and product development as needed.

Job Qualifications:
• MS degree with 8+ years minimum or PhD degree with a 5+ years minimum of relevant industrial experience in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering or related field. PhD is strongly preferred.

Experience / Knowledge Desired:
• Demonstrated fundamental knowledge of protein structure and degradation mechanisms including chemical stability, physical stability and interactions with common excipients and surfaces.
• Expertise in aggregate characterization and sub-visible particle analysis (e.g. HIAC, MFI, optical microscopy) and exposure to emerging protein particle analysis techniques.
• Experience with regulatory interactions regarding biologic particulates required.
• Knowledge on multiparticulate systems, hydrogel-based systems or lipid-based systems.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience using methods for particle size analysis, particle characterization, and rheology.
• Hands-on experience with other solid-state material characterization techniques is a plus, but not necessary.
• Strong cross-functional leadership skills and ability to influence matrixed teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
