The Genetics Research Center (GRC) is AbbVie's center of excellence for genetics and genomics that supports both Discovery and Development. The GRC plays an integral role towards our goal of developing world class genetics and genomics research, focusing on finding the right targets and helping us better understand not only human disease biology but also the behavior of and response to our drugs in clinical trials. The Computational Genomics (CG) team is a key component of the GRC, providing genomic analysis and insight toward our shared goal of making remarkable impacts on patient's lives.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
    Assist in the development and administration of CG compute/storage/networking infrastructure to support project work in a growing and evolving research setting. Install and maintain existing custom, open-source, and licensed software in a Linux HPC environment, composing scripts and high-throughput data management workflows to support genomics analysis. May develop new algorithms and methods for data processing and quality control. Serve as a key resource to identify and set up new bioinformatics software/databases for high throughput data analysis. Manage data storage systems and backups Work with AbbVie System Administrators and Architects to integrate the Computational Genomics activities with other internal and external resources.


Level and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Educational Requirements:

  • Master of Science Degree in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or relevant field.
  • Or Bachelors in relevant field with significant related work experience.


Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ (BS) or 3+(MS) years experience in programming, analysis, and consulting in a specific area of research.
  • Administrative experience with Linux
  • HPC batch queuing systems (Slurm, PBS, etc)
  • Programming and/or scripting experience
  • Bash, python - required
  • R - preferred
  • Relational database experience
  • GitHub
  • Familiar with software development
  • Familiar with web application frameworks and deployment
  • Familiar with Linux container technologies
  • Eager to learn and not afraid to ask questions.
  • Strong communication skills
