The Translational Medicine (TM) organization's mission is to increase the speed and success of our drug pipeline thereby getting the right drugs to the right patients at the right time. TM is a critical central function within BMS that interfaces with the entire continuum of drug development from early discovery through late stage development and commercialization. TM interfaces with several functional interfaces including regulatory, procurement, strategy and operations, finance, quality, vendor management, clinical operations and business development. Among these interfaces, an important responsibility of TM is to partner with business development by provide deep scientific subject matter expertise across all technology platforms including bioinformatics, genomics, pathology, flow cytometry, bio-analytical, and imaging. Supporting critical business partnerships for the global commercialization of companion/complementary diagnostics is also an important role of the TM and BD partnership. The exponential growth and importance of TM to BMS has created increased demand for identifying, evaluating and contracting with cutting edge technology and diagnostic manufacturers that extend beyond traditional pharma partnerships. The complexity of these external capabilities, the rapid technology cycle times and the technology/diagnostic business models requires dedicated TM input into the business development process.

We are seeking a deeply accomplished subject matter expert to work closely with business development function to facilitate and enhance all BD functional capabilities (Search, Evaluation, Transactions) across external technology and diagnostic partnerships that enable TM deliverables. The role will also inform early stage biomarker technology platform decisions by providing commercial and upstream marketing input. The role serves as a single point of contact for TM for all BD activities to engage with all TM functions for greater efficiency for consensus and prioritization. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Works with business development to identify and champion key projects including proactive identification of novel biomarker and diagnostic technology
  • Works with business development to prioritize the joint business development and translational medicine book of work
  • Works with business development to monitor pace of diligence and transactions, helping to put greater focus on the higher priority activities and facilitating the required strategic and detailed TM input
  • Create a more seamless transition from agreement to execution by facilitation of engagement of technical and supportive functions (e.g. Alliance Management, Project Management, laboratory functions, regulatory, etc)
  • Provides emerging and evolving TM insights to business development teams throughout the business development process
  • Informs TM leadership of key business development initiatives that impact TM deliverables
  • Stays current and informs BMS on competitive intelligence related to advances in pharmaceutical and diagnostic partnerships
  • Informs technology functions about relevant market and commercial trends in the diagnostic industry to help guide early access decisions.


Requirements:
  • MS in life sciences with at least 10 years' experience relevant to the TM space
  • Demonstrated track record of scientific accomplishments
  • Strong business acumen for pharmaceutical and diagnostic industry
  • Strong understanding of technology identifcation and assessment
  • Strong understanding of intellectual property and contracts
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business strategies at senior levels
  • Strong matrix management skills
  • Familiarity with project and program management
  • Familiarity of commercialization and marketing of diagnostic products


Preference for the following:
  • MBA in addition to scientific qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience inTM product development and, if possible, commercial organizations
  • Experience working within an in [intro]??? diagnostic company
  • Experience working with companion diagnostics
  • Has a strong understanding of the challenges associated with CDx joint development programs
  • Certified project manager
  • Certified six sigma
