This is a full-time position within the finance operations for Arcus Biosciences.  This position will prepare annual budgets and periodic reforecasts for a newly public development-stage immuno-oncology company with multiple ongoing clinical trials.  A key part of the job will include working with the clinical operations team to track progress on trials to support the month-end accrual process.  The ideal candidate is someone with biotech experience, preferably interaction with clinical operations teams on clinical trial progress, capable of working independently across multiple functions to ensure accurate and efficiently-prepared budgets and forecasts. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with VP Finance, Corporate Controller, prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts for a growing development stage company with research, discovery, CMC, pre-clinical and clinical departments with multiple ongoing clinical trials in the U.S. and Australia
  • Monitor, research and report on financial variances of actual operating expenses against budgets and forecasts in quarterly management packages, board slides, and audit committee materials
  • Assist with cash forecasting and projections of cash runway based on operating plans
  • Interact with clinical operations and research teams to understand status of multiple clinical
    trials and research projects
  • Support the monthly accrual process by:
    • Preparing monthly expense trackers, which will involve understanding of contracts, collaborating with vendors and internal project groups, and soliciting input from head of clinical, clinical team project managers, and clinical research associates on trial progress (e.g. patient enrollment and dosage activity)
    • Reviewing tracking of clinical invoices against PO’s and projected spend
    • Reviewing purchase requests to determine whether they are within budget
  • Interact with collaboration partner on a cost-share collaboration agreement, providing quarterly expense summaries, and prepare quarterly invoice to collaboration partner
  • Support revenue recognition process by preparing budgets on a program basis, and then analyzing actual spend against those budgets
  • Evaluation of budgeting systems and implementation lead on the selected system
  • Ad hoc analytical support for CFO and senior leadership
  • Other projects as needed

Requirements

  • BS degree in finance or accounting
  • 5+ years of total corporate finance and accounting experience, including experience in
    financial planning and analysis, preferably in life science or pharmaceutical development
    industries
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, particularly in accounting for clinical trials
  • Understanding of functional area roles, responsibilities and interdependencies of the
    drug development process
  • Advanced competency working in MS Excel, with proven ability to design sophisticated
    spreadsheet models, incorporating use of logic and lookup formulas, as well as pivot tables;
    proficiency with MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Previous experience leading a budgeting process, preferably company-wide or at a minimum large department within a company
  • Previous experience with budgeting systems, preferably in an implementation role
  • Superb organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Self-starter, independent thinker and deadline driven; able to effectively operate
    independently and as part of a team
  • Enjoys bridging to departments outside of finance
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment is essential
