Position Summary

This position will be the payroll lead for 500+ employees covering North America. This role will plan, manage and administer effective and efficient payroll processes across several legal entities in the US.

The position will partner with Human Resources to provide guidance and direction regarding payroll activities. The role is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining processes/policies related to payroll data requirements. Manage relationships with external payroll service provider and other payroll related vendors. Prepare journal entries and reconciliations and provide management reports in a timely manner. Investigate and implement new payroll processing improvements as necessary.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Responsible for the timely preparation of payroll for all employees, and efficient reporting on payroll expenses
  • Manage relationships with payroll service providers
  • Process manual checks and off-cycle payrolls runs as necessary
  • Maintain all payroll records including required tax filing reports (W-2, 941, etc.)
  • Update salary forecast information for budgeting and forecasting
  • Process journal entries and prepare reconciliations related to payroll
  • Produce and maintain monthly / quarterly and ad hoc management reports as required (eg. overtime by employee)
  • Resolve issues and answer payroll-related questions. Take the lead for answering employee payroll related questions.
  • Handle all paperwork related to unemployment filings.
  • Partner with Sales Operations for the timely processing of sales incentive plan payments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of annual bonus payments to employees
  • Investigate new payroll processing improvements, and implement new processes to either improve internal controls over payroll or improve efficiencies of the payroll process
  • Develop training materials for employees and supervisors on new payroll processes (time sheets, attendance, 401K plan).
  • Assist the Accounting Department with cash functions and reconciliations
  • Complies with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Ipsen U.S. staff


Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Certified Payroll Professional certification preferred

Experience
  • 7+ years hands on payroll experience processing multi-location payroll
  • Experience with ADP and SAP required
  • Experience with Canadian payroll - preferred

  • Experienced in the design and operation of payroll systems.
  • Subject matter expert in payroll best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and state government regulations relating to payroll, FLSA, ERISA, company policies and operations.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and data confidentiality are required.
  • Must have a customer-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to perform with minimum supervision, prioritize effectively and perform proactively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment, with a demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive or confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Strong computer skills and extensive working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications and well-developed internet research skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
