Position Summary

Summary: Manages the design, specification, and installation of new and renovated biopharmaceutical process equipment Automation control systems. Provides technical expertise to Automation and related departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manages the scope, deliverables, schedule, budget and quality of Automation projects related to cGMP process equipment, software, and controls.

• Responsible for the identification and mitigation of risks to ensure business continuity and protect the company from loss.

• Prepares, presents, and disseminates technical information relating to equipment control systems, Automation, and GMPs.

• Responsible for preparation and presentation of project status reports.

• Manages the design review, site acceptance, and installation of equipment.

• Assists process engineering in preparation of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams and other related drawings and documents.

• Supports QA/Validation Department through preparation of design documents and protocol review.

• Responsible for development and tracking of changes to project scope, schedule, and cost.

• Evaluates, approves, prepares, and executes change control documentation.

• Assists in development of department policies, procedures and specifications.

• Acts as Subject Matter Expert during regulatory inspections and internal investigations.

• Supports Manufacturing and Maintenance activities as technical advisor.

• Maintains a clean and safe working environment by enforcing procedures, policies, and regulations.

• Maintains company reputation by enforcing compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Contract Engineers (Design, Project, Electrical).

• Construction Contractors (Electrical).

• Automation Contractors.

• May have Supervisory responsibility for more junior level Automation Engineers.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Working knowledge of cGMPs and sanitary equipment design requirements.

• Thorough knowledge of process and machine control systems and automation.

• Advanced knowledge of Automation documentation and software programming required for cGMP process equipment.

• Substantial knowledge of control system design & function and biopharmaceutical equipment.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Solid supervision, leadership, and project management skills.

• Ability to understand and manage project plans, budgets, and schedules.

• Ability to present technical subject matter to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database management software, project scheduling software, and PCs.
Education and Experience:

• Requires BS/BA or higher in engineering with an emphasis on control systems and 2+ years of experience in equipment process or facilities engineering.

• Direct experience with biopharmaceutical process equipment is required. Formal training in project management preferred.
