The Protein Science group in Molecular Discovery Technologies provides protein production, analytical, and biophysical characterization of protein targets, protein reagents, as well as therapeutic and reagent antibodies. This group supports programs across all BMS therapeutic areas including Immuno-oncology (IO), Oncology, Immunoscience, Cardiovascular and Fibrosis, and all modalities including biologics, small molecules and peptides.
This position will be responsible for providing purification support for protein reagents. The successful candidate will support targets across all BMS therapeutic areas, primarily Biologics reagents and targets. Purification and characterization support will utilize state of the art instruments and technologies. The candidate will also collaborate with other functional organizations and project teams across Discovery and early Development.

● Purify recombinant proteins from bacterial and mammalian cells.

● Provide scaled up purification of lead molecules for animal efficacy and PK studies.

● Provide scaled up purification of lead molecules for stability and formulation studies.

● Provide protein chemistry support including antibody fragment (Fab) generation, protein labeling (biotinylation, fluoresecent dyes, pegylation), and epitope mapping.

● Collaborate with protein expression group and provide in-process expression screening.

● Collaborate in multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams.

● Communicate results written and verbally to multi-disciplinary team members.


● B.S. or M.S. with 4-6+ years relevant experience in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry or related field, preferably including experience in a Biotech, Pharma or Biopharma setting.

● Hands on experience with protein purification, including Protein A/G, preparative size exclusion chromatography, affinity chromatography.

● Experience with characterization of proteins including analytical SEC, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, western blotting.

● Ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams, and ability to communicate results written and verbally to multidisciplinary team members.

● Experience in protein expression, monoclonal antibodies and fusion proteins would be an advantage.

● Additional skills/experience that would be advantageous: familiarity with automation, electronic lab notebook or LIMS systems, epitope mapping and construct design.
