Biophysical Associate Scientist/Scientist, Small Molecule

Description

Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED)  is seeking a talented biophysical Scientist to join the Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology Department supporting our small molecule drug discovery pipeline. Responsibilities:

  • Support small molecule project teams using biophysics with a focus on SPR, for hit identification, validation, progression, and mechanistic studies.
  • Provide strong technical leadership to project teams in designing appropriate assay cascades
  • Manage available resources effectively to achieve project goals
  • Contribute to Genentech’s culture of discovery and innovation via presenting regularly at the functional level and by collaborating with colleagues.

     

Who You Are

  • PhD in biophysics, or a related field, with up to 4 years of relevant drug discovery experience beyond PhD.
  • Experience in the application of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), or equivalent label-free technology, to small molecule drug discovery
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for helping to support identification of potential challenges, collaborative troubleshooting and delivery of both timely and impactful data.
  • Proven record with significant contribution(s) to drug discovery related research as evidenced by a strong publication record.
  • Broad understanding of the hits-to-leads process.
  • Comfortable participating in and/or leading multidisciplinary teams across functional areas.
  • Working knowledge of other biophysical techniques and a record of advancing drug discovery methods highly desired
  • Experience in SPR-based fragment screening and associated follow-up is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with kinetic /thermodynamic characterization by label-free methods is helpful.
