Senior Scientist/ Group Lead- AAV Upstream Process Development

Homology Medicines seeks an outstanding Senior Scientist/ Group Lead in the Upstream Process Development team to oversee the development of novel gene transfer and editing adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) manufacturing platforms. The individual in this role will be a highly-skilled, talented and motivated senior scientist who will focus on the development, characterization, and scale up of cell-based methods for producing AAV vectors. We seek candidates with proven ability to work independently after initial training and collaboratively to achieve optimized project plans, with the goal to deliver products that transform the lives of patients.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Lead and manage groups in the development of upstream viral vector production processes
  • Oversee optimization of critical scientific and engineering parameters for AAV production including cell culture, virus harvest, feed strategies, and lysis and clarification
  • Work collaboratively with development and manufacturing teams to integrate new discoveries and scale-up strategies into production process
  • Evaluate raw materials and equipment ensuring scalability and compatibility with GMP operations
  • Guide technology transfer to GMP manufacturing facilities internally and at CMOs
  • Ability to support regulatory documentation from USP needed for submissions

Skills and Experience

  • BS (9+), MS (6+), or PhD (4+) years industry experience. Degree experience in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, or bioengineering.
  • Industry experience in the manufacturing of live virus or viral vector products.
  • Previous production of biologic products using transfection-based platforms preferred
  • Experience with leading
  • Able to effectively manage and prioritize multiple parallel laboratory activities is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills and ability to work as part of multidisciplinary teams.
