We are seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to join our Palo Alto Protein Sciences team (relocating to South San Francisco in 2019). The Senior Scientist will characterize molecular interactions using SPR and other methods to support biologics drug discovery as well as protein engineering and reagent QC. S/he will plan and execute experiments, optimize and troubleshoot assays, interpret results and write technical reports, and present findings at group, departmental, and team meetings. S/he will be expected to explore and apply new methods and technologies to increase capabilities and improve workflow.

The Senior Scientist will have the opportunity to work with a wide array of scientists from different departments and functional areas, use the latest technologies as well as novel approaches, and make significant contributions towards Merck’s drug discovery pipeline.



Education Minimum Requirement: 

BS/BA with minimum of 7 years, MS/MA with minimum of 4 years, or PhD with 0+ years of industry or academia experience.

Required Experience and Skills: 

  • At least 2 years of solid hands on experience using BIAcore and other biosensors and techniques to analyze an array of molecular interactions.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in investigating proteins or antibodies in the context of drug discovery or protein engineering.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of protein structure, protein-ligand interactions and protein biophysical properties.
  • Demonstrated ability to tackle multiple projects and meet aggressive timelines.
  • Demonstrated collaborative work experience across organizations.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Broad experience working with high-throughput methods and automation.
  • Broad knowledge and experience working with cells and cell-based binding assays.
